Matt Cameron Steps Off Pearl Jam Stage After Defining Role

After 27 years of setting the pace for Pearl Jam, drummer Matt Cameron is officially stepping down. He announced the news with heartfelt words on social media, ending an era that helped shape the band’s modern legacy.
Joining in 1998, Cameron was initially a short-term solution that quickly turned into a career-defining role. His first album with the group, Binaural, signaled a new musical direction.
Simultaneously juggling Pearl Jam and Soundgarden during part of his career, Cameron showed unmatched dedication to both bands. He became one of the few musicians to define two legendary acts.
His final appearance with the band was during the Dark Matter tour. Though he’s leaving the stage, his rhythm remains a crucial part of Pearl Jam’s DNA.
