Gaza Peace Force in Limbo as Israel’s Netanyahu Demands Veto, Rejects Turkey

Date:

The entire plan for an international peace force in Gaza is in limbo following a declaration from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He is demanding a full veto over its composition and has already signaled he will use it to reject Turkey.
“Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us,” Netanyahu stated, citing the deep rift with Turkish President Erdogan. He also claimed the US supports this position.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the US stance, stating the force must be “countries that Israel’s comfortable with.” He also stressed that Hamas, which refuses to disarm, must be excluded.
The US will not send troops, but is exploring a UN resolution for the force, which could include Egypt and Gulf states.
This comes as the truce is tested by an Israeli strike on Nuseirat and a slow exchange of remains, which has drawn a warning from Trump.
