Russia Strikes Ukraine: Urban Infrastructure Targeted as Substantive Progress Reported

Russian forces killed one person and wounded 15 others, targeting urban infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv as substantive progress was reported from peace negotiations. The strikes damaged critical city systems while diplomatic sources suggested significant advances in discussions.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko issued urgent warnings that urban infrastructure was being targeted in a “massive enemy attack.” The bombardment struck residential buildings and critical systems, causing casualties and extensive damage. Urban infrastructure including heat and water networks sustained major damage.
Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that Kharkiv’s urban infrastructure was targeted by Iranian-manufactured Shahed drones. The drone strikes damaged essential city systems and residential complexes. The northeastern city’s urban infrastructure has been systematically targeted, severely degrading essential services.
Despite targeted urban infrastructure, substantive progress was reported from Abu Dhabi where American, Russian, and Ukrainian representatives engaged in two-day talks. President Zelensky announced that peace proposals were “nearly ready,” indicating substantive progress. The UAE foreign ministry described the discussions as focused on “promoting dialogue and identifying political solutions to the crisis.”
Ukrainian President Zelensky suggested substantive progress had been made following his meeting with President Trump. He proposed creating a free trade zone in eastern Ukraine under Kyiv’s control as part of emerging agreements. President Putin met with Trump’s envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, as sources reported substantive diplomatic advances.
