White House Suspends Teleprompter Tech for Alleged Insider Betting Incident

Date:

The White House has taken action against Gabriel Perez, a longtime teleprompter operator for President Donald Trump, by placing him on unpaid administrative leave. This decision follows allegations that Perez took advantage of his advance access to presidential speeches for financial gain. Reports suggest that he placed lucrative bets on an online prediction market, leading to his suspension.

In response to these allegations, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed disappointment, labeling the situation as “deeply unfortunate.” She emphasized the administration’s commitment to maintaining stringent ethical standards. As a result of these developments, a different operator was tasked with handling the teleprompter for President Trump’s most recent televised address.

Sources indicate that Perez allegedly secured over $100,000 by betting on the prediction markets offered by Kalshi. This platform enables users to wager on the likelihood of specific words or topics being mentioned in public speeches. The unusual trading activity on the platform raised suspicions and prompted Kalshi to report the matter to federal regulators for further investigation.

Currently, authorities are investigating whether Perez’s actions constituted insider trading by using confidential information to gain an unfair advantage in the market. This case has surfaced at a time when prediction markets are facing increased scrutiny, with regulators stepping up oversight to prevent potential misuse of insider knowledge.
