In a significant development at the 2026 NATO Summit held in Ankara, US President Donald Trump announced the potential for Ukraine to acquire a licence to manufacture Patriot missile interceptors. This move, aimed at bolstering Ukraine’s air defence against Russian missile threats, was discussed during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump stated that the United States is prepared to allow Ukraine the rights to produce Patriot missiles, along with offering technical assistance necessary for the intricate production process. However, he admitted that discussions with the defence firms involved in manufacturing these systems are still pending.
Despite this potential advancement, Trump clarified that the US is unable to immediately supply additional Patriot interceptors from its current stock due to limited inventory and the country’s own defence needs.
