The 21st century is witnessing the start of a “Great Game 2.0,” a new struggle for influence across the Eurasian heartland and beyond. However, in this new version, the key players of India, China, and Russia have formed a powerful alliance to change the rules of the game and counter the influence of the United States.
The opening move of this new Great Game was the recent SCO summit, where the united front of these three Eurasian giants served as a game-changing declaration. Analyst Van Jones recognized this as a “historically big deal,” a strategic play designed to establish a “new world order” centered on the Eurasian landmass.
This alliance is fueled by a shared desire to push back against American encroachment and economic pressure. The US’s use of tariffs and sanctions is seen as a hostile move in this new geopolitical contest, prompting a coordinated defensive and offensive strategy from the Eurasian bloc.
The United States, a master of the old game, appears to have been outplayed in this new iteration. According to Jones, it has been strategically isolated and finds itself on the “bad side of the triangle.” It is rapidly losing control of the board in a crucial region of the world.
