Owls’ Future in Hands of Administrators After 12-Point Hit

Date:

The future of Sheffield Wednesday is now in the hands of administrators Begbies Traynor, who are seeking a “swift sale” after the club was docked 12 points. Owner Dejphon Chansiri placed the club in administration, leaving it on -6 points, 15 adrift of safety.
The administrator has taken “immediate effect” control, with the aim of protecting creditors, including HMRC (owed $pounds{}$1m) and unpaid staff. They will market the club and Hillsborough stadium as a single package.
The move ends Chansiri’s “years of financial mismanagement,” according to the Supporters Trust, which is “overjoyed” at his departure. The “bittersweet” day was marked by the removal of “Chansiri” seats from the stadium.
Manager Henrik Pedersen met with the administrators and his “emotional” staff. He called the administration a “fresh restart” that was necessary as the situation “cannot continue.”
Despite the bleak outlook, Pedersen insists he has “a big belief we can survive.” The Supporters Trust is also looking ahead, ending its “phase of resistance” and calling on fans to “re-engage.”
