Clock Ticking on Gaza Deal as Final Logistical Talks Commence

Date:

The clock is ticking on a landmark deal to end the Gaza war, with US officials stating the agreement is “90 per cent done” and final logistical talks have commenced. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed hope that the remaining issues could be resolved “very quickly.”
The deal, which Hamas has “basically” accepted, requires the militant group to free all Israeli hostages. In return, Israel will conduct a strategic military withdrawal to the “yellow line,” its position as of mid-August.
A crucial component of the nearly-finalized accord is a plan for the future. Rubio confirmed that Hamas has agreed “in principle” to participate in discussions about the post-war governance of Gaza, a significant step toward a lasting political solution.
The process is being driven by President Donald Trump, who has called the framework a “great deal for Israel.” He has also issued a severe ultimatum to Hamas, warning of “complete obliteration” if it doesn’t relinquish control, and has confirmed Benjamin Netanyahu’s support.
As negotiators enter the final, time-sensitive phase, the international community is on high alert. The success of these logistical talks in the coming days will determine whether the two-year conflict can finally be brought to an end.
